ACTIVITY SEARCH
RIVERAlthough South Africa is a relatively arid country there are numerous rivers and estuaries that allow for a multitude of river-based activities, day trips and excursions. The Orange River is famous for it’s multi-day river trips. Float through ancient rugged lands that have been carved by this river for centuries. What better way to see in the New Year than on a canoe-trip down the Orange River. There are also many other rivers in South Africa that offer the excitement of whitewater rafting and kayaking. Fly Fishing is another popular activity especially in the crystal clear streams that flow out of South Africa’s many mountain ranges. The mountain streams of the Western Cape, Drakensberg, Mpumalanga as well as Barkly East and Lady Grey in the Eastern Cape are particularly well known as prime trout fishing areas in South Africa. River cruises are also another way to soak up South Africa’s majestic scenery. For something out of the ordinary try a wine tasting cruise on the Breede River in Robertson or a game-viewing cruise at selected reserves around the Kruger Park, Kenton on Sea and St Lucia. If you are looking for something a little more adventurous try Blackwater Tubing in the cascading beauty of the Storms River Gorge found in the Tsitsikamma Mountains along the Garden Route. |
